Indigenous Roots

My grandfather used to say my great great grandmother was a squaw and he said it in a real angry way. Most if my relatives on my Dad's side have Dutch ancestry but was right on the border with the reserve in Browns Yard New Brunswick. Whenever I asked my father about my indigenous roots he'd quickly change the subject. There obviously was some tension and most of my queries were quelled. As I entered my 20's I became very interested in family history. I learned about my Nova Scotia Acadian roots on my Mom's side. She on the opposite was thrilled I asked, and said our lineage comes from a native princess. Sounded a bit bologna but the Acadian was true and my grandmother was quite brown. But I also learned of Irish and Nordique roots as well with no real evidence of indigenous blood in my ancestry. So in my 30s I had my blood sent off to the genealogy overlords to estimate who I was. But only an approximation no definite link as almost if it didn't exist but what was interesting was all the Baltic states where my ancestry is found and some in Spain and Sweden but again just hypothesized by the company. I may never know and the question is would it matter if I did...would I change my attitudes based on new knowledge?
